Hummm... The pine needles nearby, the mossy spot, the color and those false gills... could this be a weirdo form of Pig's Ear that didn't quite pig out all the way?
The species "pigs ear" formerly occurred in the British Isles, but has not been seen since 1927 and is now regarded as extinct. Thanks
Whoa... well, I dunno what to tell you but this looks remarkably like a young one... the only other possibility I can think of is Polyozellus multiplex, but I don't think those have ever grown in the UK or Europe at all.
